WHAT:

Feeling paralyzed by the state of the world—but still deeply called to do something about it? This course helps you move from overwhelm to organized, from reactive to resilient, from scattered to strategic.

Subversive Futures Lab is an online course designed for organizers, activists, healers, educators, artists, and anyone trying to build resilience and prepare for the future so they can stop feeling overwhelmed by escalating crises and start taking bold, strategic steps toward creating a more liberated future.

This course uniquely combines practical strategies for survival with visionary tools for liberation- born out of two decades of frontline activism. As a CUNY School of Labor & Urban Studies Movement Leader Fellow and Black to the Future Public Policy Institute Fellow, I have expertise in movement building and policy advocacy. My academic background (focused on critical race theory, decolonial studies, and philosophy of mind) brings rigor to this work, while experience teaching these subjects at the college level has made me skilled in distilling complex ideas into accessible lessons, using storytelling, myth, and metaphor to make lessons resonate deeply.

Having trained with the Institute for the Future and as a current Next Generation Foresight Practitioners Fellow, I have the tools to guide you in navigating the future with clarity and purpose. Certified by my local health departments in community emergency response training, I ground my approach to resilience in real-world action, making it both practical and impactful.

Beyond systems change, I bring expertise in mental health and emotional support: five years of suicide prevention and crisis counseling, regular presentations on mental health awareness in schools, and training as a Psilocybin facilitator through an Oregon Health Authority–licensed provider. Whether speaking on panels about power-building during crises or supporting individuals through personal transformation, I bridge the gap between inner resilience and collective action.

WHERE:

Subversive Futures Lab is a live, online course, so you can participate from anywhere in the world!

Each week, we’ll gather for a live session where you’ll engage directly with me and other participants. These sessions will include presentations, interactive exercises, and collaborative discussions. Attendance is encouraged to get the most out of the course, but recordings will be available for those who must miss a session due to scheduling conflicts.

WHO:

I created Subversive Futures Lab after years of frontline activism, movement building, and training in foresight and climate resilience. I created it to help changemakers build resilience and prepare for an uncertain future so people can be prepared for the overlapping crisis of climate change, political instability, and systemic collapse.

Here’s my official bio:

I’m Je Amaechi and I’m someone who has spent the last 20+ years learning, growing, and working alongside incredible people making meaningful change in the world. I’ve walked the path of activism, education, and healing—always with an eye toward helping others navigate tough times and imagine brighter futures. If I had to sum it up, I’d say my life’s work is about helping changemakers turn fear into fight (purposeful action).

Right now, I serve as the Organizing Director at a well respected nonprofit, where I get to support movements that matter. But this isn’t just a job—it’s deeply personal. Over the years, I’ve worked hard to bridge big ideas with practical steps, drawing from disciplines like policy advocacy, decolonial studies, and futures thinking. Systems change, crisis preparedness, and community empowerment are all part of what drives me every day.

My roots are in critical race theory and decolonial studies, which have shaped how I see the world and approach challenges. And because real-world impact matters so much to me, I’ve also trained in mental health support and community emergency response. These tools help me stay grounded when things feel overwhelming—and they remind me that no matter how complex the problems we face, human connection and care are always at the heart of solving them.

I reside in Portland, Oregon with my cat where I enjoy collaging, exploring astrology and taking nature walks.
